THE APPOINTMENT LIFT-OFF GLOBAL NETWORK SESSIONS OFFICIAL SELECTION

Our first official short film of the year, this ninety-second film was our first finished project of 2025. With the theme being ‘change and transformation’, we decided to do a kind of psychological subgenre of horror. Both my partner and I struggle the most with the dialogue part of the scripts, so we developed the idea around that, focusing on the visual storytelling, different camera angles, and fast movements with captivating sounds.

Once the principal idea was established, we organized the location and the actors. Also, one of the most difficult tasks for completing any assignment in general is finding reliable actors that manage to portray the feeling of your work into the picture. But luckily, we got that sorted out easily and very quickly we had a full plan completed. When the date came, we prepared everything on the set and proceeded to shoot it completely in six hours.

The editing part of this project was pretty fun, we experimented a lot with transitions and sounds so we could make a captivating and visually pleasing short story. We were both happy with the final results, so we submitted it to several festivals and got selected in a couple, which I hope is just the beginning of my portfolio to get more experience in the near future.

With this project we faced a few more new challenges. For this short film our time window was between six to eight minutes, making it the longest project we have had to prepare on our own. Maintaining the drama genre, we had a brainstorming session and once again we decided to lean towards a horror short film. We had a pitching session in class before starting to organize the project, explaining the idea was a bit hard for this type of picture, but got a lot of helpful feedback before getting to work on it.

Once again, the dialogue was one of the most challenging parts, also because neither of us are very focused on script writing, although we scripted a general idea, we gave some directions to our lovely actors giving them a little bit of improvisation room to work on.

Working with the same team made it a lot easier too, knowing now what preferences we have we managed to shoot everything in one day, and finished all the editing in one session too. We got better results than expected, although a few mistakes could have been fixed, the decision to do it in black and white, and mixing some specific shots and eerie sounds, resulted in quite a nice picture.
